The European Union (EU) in Brussels will host the Representatives to the ASEAN Committee on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Right of Migrant Workers (ACMW) together with an official of the ASEAN Secretariat responsible for assisting the ACMW. The purpose of the study visit is to share the European experience on migration to the ACMW Representatives, with the objective of providing relevant knowledge and perspectives to assist them in the drafting of the ASEAN Framework Instrument on the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers. The study visit will be organised by the External Action Service of the European Union and funded under READI HRF.
The study visit will aim at presenting the EU’s policy on migration, and will cover a number of topics such as fair treatment of third-country nationals residing legally in Member States; asylum and temporary protection with a view to offering appropriate status to any third-country national requiring international protection and ensuring compliance with the Geneva Convention; programmes aiming at implementing the principle of solidarity and fair sharing of responsibilities between the Member States. It will also present the EU’s policy on borders and controls as well as how their policies on migration is designed and implemented in order to effectively promote and protect human rights. This activity is expected to contribute to the drafting of the ASEAN Framework Instrument on the protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers.
