Maritime Cooperation

Maritime cooperation is a complex and multifaceted challenge, which has acquired growing importance for the EU and ASEAN. Exchanges of lessons learned on maritime related issues between ASEAN and the EU is one of the priority areas of cooperation. At the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting of 26-27 April 2012 in Brunei-Darussalam, maritime cooperation was one of the central discussion themes. Both ASEAN and EU Ministers stressed the importance of promoting cooperation in this area. Moreover, the Plan of Action 2013-2017 adopted at the Brunei Ministerial Meeting, stipulates that ASEAN and the EU should promote the exchange of experience in maritime-related issues, sharing knowledge and expertise in the sustainable joint management of marine resources (clause 1.2.8).
